Inside the Linnean House are examples of trees of
a type far more
ancient than even the ginkgo. These are the tree ferns, which appeared
as long as 350 to 400 million years ago. Here is the Tasmanian Tree Fern
(Dicksonia antarctica Labill.), from the Southern Hemisphere,
one of the
species more commonly grown.
