Shale bed in Worland Limestone

Arrow points to a major shale "break" in the Worland Limestone. The
shale contains scattered lenses of limestone. Clays are also concentrated
at bedding surfaces, forming very thin shale laminae. Note the hammer
for scale at the right. An overhanging loose block of limestone on the
left that weighs about 200 pounds could fall at any moment on the head
of someone collecting fossils from the upper part of the Lake Neosho
Shale.
