Cathedral Bluffs member was a reducing environment stage of ancient
Lake Gosiute. Roughly 100 miles each direction, the lake was only
about 60 feet deep at any given time. A number of thousand feet of
erosion has been removed to expose the areas of the field trip. Erosion
took place during the mass wasting occurring 10 million to 1 million
years ago roughly.
