Stratigraphy

Below is a generalized stratigraphic column showing the Marmaton
Group (including the Altamont Formation) in Missouri. For the Altamont
and adjacent strata, this column accurately portrays their stratigraphic
development near the Kansas-Missouri border, but is misleading for the
St. Louis area. For example, the Amoret Limestone Member of the
Altamont is apparently not present at I-170. Also, the Bandera is much
thinner here and includes boulder conglomerate with limestone interbeds
in the upper part rather than sandstone. For a thorough discussion of
